1086 fluid leak

My 1086 has started leaking universal fluid where the left lift arm attaches to the differential housing. I believe this is a torsion bar that runs through the housing that is part of the draft control? It's leaking quite badly. Is there a seal or o-ring there that can be replaced; if so, how serious a job is it? Thanks in advance!

there are 3 o rings to replace. drain trans fluid, pull pto unit, remove lift arms. the torsion tube and shaft and arm come out-make sure to index mark the various splines if they aren't already. 2 o rings on 1 side and 1 on the other. nothing too complicated, just some heavy work with the pto, and sometimes the torsion pieces are a bit of a bear to get apart.

There is an "O" ring on the torsion bar on the left side that can leak; however, if the leak started suddenly and is dripping oil at a fast rate, likely you cracked/broke the torsion arm. Replacing is not terribly bad if you know your way around an IH from "06 to 86 series. You will have to remove the top link attachment cover and perhaps the PTO assembly to disconnect the arm that works against the lift valve (held onto the torsion bar with a "U" bolt just right of center in the main case). Then remove both three point lower links and all brackets that fit next to the torsion bar. Remove the right side torsion arm. Once all this and the oil is out, the torsion bar will slide to the left side. You will need a service manual as my description is from memory and is a few years old. You will also want to find a good used or replacement torsion bar. Aftermarket torsion bars were available a few years ago for an 806 and should be available for a 1086. If you want to contact me, email is open.

Unless that is different than our 856and 806 you can pull all the left side by just un bolting the bracket on the left side there and the rest will come apart to replace the o-rings. The right side is the hard one.
