cab overflowing

The 22-36 runs again after about 30 years of sitting. The problem though is the carb overflows after replacing the float with a new brass float and needle and seat. THe float is adjusted according to included instructions. The float is not leaking and works properly. The new needle and seat in not very well finished with the seating surfaces looking somewhat rough.

What is a good compound to use to get the surfaces properly seated? Valve grinding compound is too coarse, so am thinking of using baking soda or tooth paste as an abrasive. Any ideas? Thanks,
Joe

Is the float needle one of those new rubber tipped ones?? If it is open the carb back up. Drop the needle into the seat and tap on it a few times. Then pull it back out and look for a ring around the end of it. You may have to do it a couple times. That is what is called setting the tip learned that years ago from a guy who died years ago

Thanks old. It is a metal tip so hoping a little laping will make it seat. If not, its 30 dollars down the drain. The old needle had quite a ring worn around it so is beyond repair. i think a lot of these replacement parts come from the land of almost right. Joe

While you are working on the needle polish up the points on the needle(sides), a lot of the made in China stuff is a little over sized, and they hang in the seat wall.
