1486 hyd psi and releif valve

I have had some recent post on this problem not having psi on my aux outlets. My gauge shows 2000 psi cold , 1900 psi hot. Most comments say relief valve. I went Saturday and bought a new relief valve. They sold three different psi, 2100, 2250 and 2500. I bought the 2500 psi valve. I have not yet installed the new valve yet. My question is, do the pumps put out that much pressure? I always though they only maxed out 2100 psi or did the 86 series have a higher pressure pump? If I install this valve and my pump is good will I have 2500 psi also? Can you buy higher psi pumps also for the 1486? Thanks Larry

Well if your 1486 is the older one with the open center system the pump will make pressure as long as it is good and yes they will make 2500 psi BUT do you NEED that much as that just adds that much more strain on the pump. and also will your hoses and cylinders stand that extra??. My feelings on this is to get your system FLOW RATED not just stuffen in a gauge and sayen oh i have this or that . With the flow rater you get to see what the pump is putting out in gallons per min. at a give temp and pressure . Myself i would exchange the 2500 PSI valve for a 2250 one and let someone with a flow rater check it . As my thinking is that the pump is slowly heading down hill.

Thanks Vet for responding. My 1486 is a 1980 model and how do I tell if I have a closed or open center system? We have had a flow rater on it also and it is pushing 15 gpm. We have other tractors , eleven other tractors including two four wheel drives and six front wheel assist tractors, but I like at times hooking up to my old 1486 and using it. I still like to show people what this old tractor can do and looking damn doing it. I also still own a 1466 but after quitting the custom hay business and row crop farming only, I sold last summer my 706, two 806's and my 856. Didn't have the room anymore and I couldn't see them sitting outside.

Being that it is a 80 model i am guessen that it is the PFC or closed center system and at 15 GPM that sure is not a stock pump on a open center system . So if it is a closed center system i can not help ya as i never got into them as i never got the analyzer to go with my flow rater and only worked on one so on theses i am no expert . Maybe Pete or Owan will chime in as they have worked on them.

First off been gone for a couple days. If that tractor has pfc closed center hydraulics it does not use the replaceable relief valve. The relief valve is in the compensator on the pump. It would have a spring loaded ball style safety valve in the place where the open center tractors have the pilot relief valve. Pressure should be in the 2600 psi area with pfc. It should also have 17 gal if I remember right, not looking up any specs here. Could be converted to gear pump, have 15 gal pump and I don't remember what relief valve that used. Too many if's here to diagnose.
