The lever is back in, everything good, have all fwd gears and reverse.
The final piece of the puzzle is those little plugs. One was gone, that is what caused the problem.
The other one is a little plug that looks like a contact lens. No "lip" on it like a freeze plug.
The one I have goes in AND out with just the slightest clearance. I am assuming you put it in there convex out and then when it contacts some shoulder inside you then "stretch it tight with a drift punch and a hammer, basically flattening it
Or,, do you buy one larger than the hole and drive it in from the very beginning like a freeze plug?

You got it, install and then expand it. 5/8 inch is the size. You can get them at NAPA and other suppliers. I can look up the NAPA part number if needed.

OK. The one I have that came out easily is .620. And it is still nice and concave/convex not flattened at all. I think when I installed them 5-6 years ago I put them in like a freeze plug, concave side facing out. But I've only used it for maybe 12 hours since restoration.

There are letters on that one "SEA" Is that significant?

I'm sure my local parts guy can get me one. It's been there for 30 years and all of the parts guys are 50 or older. They use books/catalogs 75% of the time. I went in there the other day and they had the primer bulb for a 25 year old McCulloch leaf blower. And it had a Chinese carb back then
