966 or a hydro 100

I just bought some land and it came with both tractor and a td9 dozer. None of them have been ran since 2006 or 2007. I got the 966 to start but it leaking gas out the injector hose and need some work. I have not tried the 100 because it does not have a loader but does have a cab. The belt of the A/C is gone. The doors are gone. So my question is will the loader on the 966 fit the 100 and is the Hydro better? I do have a John Deere 955 and love the hydrostatic transmission in it.

If your leaking out the injector hose you have a diesel not a gas. It is a fairly easy fix just have both running. It will be easier to fix the hose than change the loader.

The 966 and Hydro 100 are basically the same exact tractor externally. Anything that mounts on the 966 will mount on the Hydro 100.

That said, the hydro is only "better" if it works. If the hydro transmission doesn't work, you've done a lot of work moving the loader over for no reason. Hydro transmissions are very expensive to repair.

I would get the hydro running before switching the loader. Not sure if I want to waist my time and money in the hydro since i know the 966 runs.

Last I checked 966 only came with a D414. If it's the hose from the pump to the filters just pull it off and have NAPA/Carquest/whoever make you a hydraulic hose.

The original nose is designed to act as a vibration dampener to lessen the pulses to the injection pump.

All leaks fixed on the 966 with about 2 hours of playing around the farm. Also got the 100 started. Something made a nest in the muffler. No signs
of leaks yet. Will play around with it tomorrow.

Make sure you run the hydro around long enough to get the hydro up to operating temp and then see if it slips.

No slipping but it does have a weird sound at high speed. After about 4 hours of running 2 small leaks in the hydraulic.
