Does anyone have first-hand experience with steering box rebuild kits available from the various sources? Are some better than others? They all claim to take the slop out of the steering wheel. I've got a little less than a quarter turn of free play in mine and the front wheels shimmy when driving on hard pavement. The tie-rod ends have been rebuilt, no play from them. Mine is a '49. It came with an Easy Ride seat so no serial number. Are the kits compatable with all years? The steering worm is welded onto the steering shaft! I find this incredible. Was the sector worm gear considered a wear part?
