The pto quit working and it makes a lot of noise up by the clutch. I know something is stripped out. And I know I have to split the tractor to fix it, but what needs to be replaced and has anyone done this? I would like to see if it is worth fixing.Jim

The PTO drive sleeve is stripped in the clutch cover. It will need at least the drive tube and the clutch cover. I would also replace the master clutch disk, TA Sprag clutch, and the TA clutch, as well as the throwout bearings and pilot bearing. This would put the PTO and TA And clutch in a position to work for the next 50 years. Jim

I am guessing you stripped splines in clutch cover or on the shaft. You will have to split it to repair problem. If it was me I would leave TA alone. You will get too much money in it. Just my thoughts.

I agree ; and if you do it your self, especially well worth doing. I made this same repair to my 300 utility a few years back. In fact, all of the tractors (IH) that I"ve had apart, I replaced the pto drive tube; the splines just wear. You have a good looking tractor there. Mark
