E-85 in an M

I accidently mixed about 4 gallons of E-85 with my 5-gallon cans of Gasohol (max 10%). I know it is in one of 3 cans (15 Gallons).

Will it "hurt" to put all 3 cans in my M? In other words, will it hurt to run 25% to 30% gasohol in an M?

it won't hurt it, if you have much crud in the tank , it may loosen it and cause you some grief. If you are working it hard it may be a bit lean, as it takes about 20% more alcohol to get the same BTUs as pure gas. If you are just doing moderate work you probably won't notice any difference.

I've been running my 1940 M and my 1940 H on straight E85 for a couple of years now. Might need to open the load adjustment screw on the carburetor to the full 5 turns out, and warm up time needs to be increased a bit, but other than that, niether tractor knows the difference.

Will just run lean, as others have said, it takes more fuel to produce same horsepower with ethanol.

Some report on this site that they do use e-85 in their old tractors and what little you have added probably wont hurt a thing.

Not many farmers or anyone associated with the AG industry will buy and ethanol fuel here in SD. Just a beef with the Fed standards and directives.
I haven't bought an ounce of ethanol/gasoline in 6 years.

So you think he should return it to the gas station ?

Guess your state has turned into an oil state and wants gas to go up and corn to return to $2.00 a bushel with other commodities to follow.

OH NO, Now you've really done it. That stuff will turn the paint on your RED tractor GREEN, with BLUE wheels. It will make the front and rear wheels turn opposite directions. The transmission oil will turn to mud, and cockroaches will breed in the hydraulic system.

4 gallons of E85 with 11 gallons of E10? Your M will drink it down like it never happened. You'll only need to mess with the set screw on the carb if you plan on pulling it really hard for a while.

Diluted that much, you won't have to mess with the load screw even if you work it.

The ethanol will remove any last drop of moisture from your fuel system and it will be clean as a whistle when you get done. It's like a giant dose of "Dry Gas."
