Hi, I"m going to change the Hydraulic Fluid in my IH 684 after a few issues, and I propose to use the recommended Hytran fluid. The question is, the farmer where I keep the tractor has a 2011 Massey Ferguson, if we tip the same trailers is there any chance of cross contamination of fluid, and if so, should I use the recommended Massey Ferguson fluid to avoid this and would it be OK in my 684?

Mixing will happen. The question is to read the fluid specs on MF equipment. If it meets Hytran spec, I would not give it a thought. If it doesn't, there are good reasons to avoid changing to the MF juice. If Hytran meets MF spec, change the other tractor to Hytran. Jim

I have had several MF tractors and always used the regular tractor fluid in all of them with no problems. It is all I buy for all my tractors unless they call for 80-90. Just my experience.
Dad's been buying new and used equipment for close to 40 years and I've never seen him give a moment's thought to cross-contamination of hydraulic fluid. We always just hook up and go. Never any problem that could be attributed to "wrong" oil.
I can't believe that there are additives in other hydraulic fluids that are so incompatible as to cause problems if a little gets mixed in. It's not like the oil will turn to jelly, or acid, or sand. It's not like the oil will start boiling and smoking if you mix a little of the "wrong" oil in.

Thanks for all the responses on this. I pretty much agree that it won't be an issue but wanted other opinions. The fact is the MF has Morris Super Universal 10W/30, which, according to the data sheets, meets the requirements of MS1209, so I may just put this in my IH 684 and then there's no issue anyway.
