Light Switch Help

Hoping to clean it up and try the switch in photo on a 50 Cub with generator and voltage regulator (not cut-out) and separate fuse.

Can anyone help with wiring specifics at the light switch?

Thanks.

Thanks, Jim.

There's actually an additional screw in the photo I posted vs the one on the diagram. It's to the left of post numbered 2 and seems to be connected to post #2 with a metal strip.

I wanted to be certain that it is, indeed the post marked #2 to which the wire to the rear lights is attached.

Any idea why the additional screw - connected to post 2 via the metal tab?

Those 2 terminals are conencted with a metal strip. So it doesn't matter which one you connect to. I think that conventionally terminal 2 is used.

Note that all 6 terminals on the back of the swich are arranged at various points on a circle. As I recall, each of those terminals has a contact behind it. Inside the switch, the knob is connected to a disk, round except for various notches around the outside edge. The notches are placed such that the disk touches specific contacts in each postion as the disk is rotated. The rear light is supposed to be ON when the switch is set either dim or bright. When the switch is set to dim, one of the terminals is contacted. Then set to bright, the other is contacted. If the metal strip between the two terminals was cut, the rear light would only be on in one of those 2 positions. Which position would be determined by which terminal was used.

Great info!

Thanks again.

New, heavy battery cables being prepared by someone; then I'll give her a shot.
