I think I have a bad reverse gear.when in reverse it sounds like a broken or missing tooth.I feel it about every 4 or 5 feet when I am backing up.Is it much of a job to get inside to check it out? never been inside a red one. any help would be great. thanks

just put new hubs on with 9 bolt tin. everything seems good and tight.it seems like when the same tooth comes around you can feel the tractor shake a little and hear like a snapping sound.

I think reverse and its idler gear turn much faster than that. It could be a pinion (under the brakes, inside) with a chip or broken tooth. Jim

Back to your original question. To see anything, you need to pull the top deck. First get the seat and seat box out of your way. The light bar, touch controls and dash box need to be removed. There are bolts under the dash box holding the deck down. Remove the deck bolts and raise it straight up, its fairly heavy so a hoist or engine lift should be used. You will then be able to see whats inside.
If a shaft needs to be removed you will have to split the tractor between the torque tube and transmission.
Parts coverage available at 'caseih' web site
good luck

It could be a bad bearing on the pinion shaft. A friend of mine pretty much the same thing going on and it was the bearings on the pinion shaft.
The bugger is you ahve to take the whole thing apart to get that shaft out.
