I have a 100 that runs perfect for about half an hour , then starts to lose power and sounds like a hit and miss engine. Has done this the last few times I"ve cut grass. Just need a starting point of where to begin looking. Thanks

Keep a can of starting fluid handy. When it starts this, spray a little into the carb intake. If it catches up and runs, you have a fuel problem, if not, you most likely have a firing problem.

Has it been sitting up? If yes it may be the fuel. Having worked with these in years past it is not uncommon for the motor to run a little rough until the carburetor and fuel line are clear. First clean the glass fuel bowl under the tank . . . even if it looks clean. If you do not want to drip fuel on your torque tube remove the fuel line and install it backwards and turn on the fuel to be sure you have a good flow of gasoline through the line. If not blow it out. Drain the carburetor bowl to be sure there is no condensate collecting there. If this does not work you may have to clean the carburetor . . . if you have spark. If you do this trick and it clears up you might have to repeat it a few times until a couple of tanks of fuel have been burned under load. We had to go through this every spring with our 200 back in the 60's. I have to say, if you have an inline fuel filter get rid of it, you do not need it and it will cause fuel flow problems. If your fuel line has a loop or dips below the carburetor then it could make the engine run rough.

If you have an inline fuel filter , replace it . It is prolly full of rust and small fines that can plug up your carb jets . That filter has saved my carb's more than once.

My cub did the same. Found the fuel line where it joins the carburator had something that looked like sand in it. That slowed the gas flow down and when it used what was in the carb bowl it would die. After a while it would crank and the process would begin again.
