444 Smoking

Hit a low lying limb and broke the flange on the manifold and had to replace it. So I replaced the manifold, manifold gasket, mew carburetor gasket, 6" manifold exhaust extension and a new muffler. After installing all said items; when I turned on the ignition switch and pushed the start switch; white smoke billowed out from under the dash. I immediately unhooked the batteries. Tractor is a 1970 444. Solid tractor until this point, any ideas. Can't find the source of the smoke and no power at all now. Stumped and Frustrated.

A wire probably got pinched between two metal components. Take it apart till you find the burnt wires. Jim

OK, Update. Carefully took the Skin off the Tractor and found 6 cuts/repairs in the negative wire and 5 in the positive wire. The only excuse I could come up with, is lazy repairs. Properly repaired all the wires and started right up. But through this endeavor I have discovered the absence of 444 parts, if anyone knows of any good places for 444 parts please attach the link or web address. I have tried the "major" parts places and even International "dealers" and it is sad at the lack of 444 parts. Thanks to all. Jerry

There were only 11856 made (according to serial # list to the left). This makes it a rare tractor with little incentive to make replacement parts, Many components are also used on other tractors, and can be traced by serial #. Best of luck, Jim

Thanks Jim for the info. I can truly believe the amount produced as I am having a booger of a time just to even find what little info I can. The best shop manual I could find/bought has very little info in ref to the 444. But I am still on the search.
