does anyone know the spec for valve protrusion or recession from the top of the cylinder head? It isn"t listed in any of my manuals. Thanks

if you mean when grinding valves its a pretty much visual thing. anyone experienced grinding valves knows when seats have to be replaced. such as the 282 diesel engine i would just replace seats everytime valves are ground makes a world of difference on starting. gas jobbies not that fussy. even on those gas start engines just replace the seats if in doubt.

I have had several gas start diesel run engines down. I think the valve head is flush with the head when new. I think (but do not know!) that .050" would be a limit to recession. Looking it up is the best deal. Jim
