Super A Tie Rod End Balls

The tie rod and steering arm end balls all show a history of being built up with weld and rounded off to compensate for wear. Is it practicle or advisable to cut the original balls off and weld new balls in their place? As near as I can tell, the original balls were one inch dia.

I tried that with ours, & it's very hard to get them ground down to perfect shape after welding them up. They tend to drop out on turns.
You may have better luck with getting them round than I did.

I use a disc sander to get them round again and with a calipers they come out just fine. You are just taking the high spot off. I have the front jacked up so when setting the slotted thingy in the end i turn the wheels back and forth to make sure there isnt any bind. A little practice and you will end up with a like new fit again
