when I try to shift the tractor it takes a few seconds for it to go in gear is that normal? also when I push in the clutch to take it out of gear it won't release all the time what should I look for? thanks

probably had the throwout bearing over greased and now its on the clutch disc. better take it apart and check it out, you don't want it to not disengage when you really need it to

In addition to what Old F20 said, I would also check the clutch shaft. Sounds also like the clutch disk is not sliding freely on the shaft. Could be full of mouse nests as well, which will can cause the symptoms you describe.

In either case, it requires popping the clutch off and take a look

If it"s an early regular, it has the multidisc clutch. When the 3 holes that attach it to the flywheel get wallered out it will do that. I"m dealing with that on my "28 right now.

My 28 regular has a multi disc clutch,Mine were stuck when i got the tractor. As far as I can remenber the out side disc is also a gear brake,I had it relined and it works perfect. With the belt pulley turning and in netural when I step on the clutch hard every thing stops quick.I beleive the disc clutch is a better clutch

James, did the big studs on the flywheel that mount the multidisc clutch have grooves worn in them, and if so, what did you do to repair them?

Probably a little late by now but I had had same issue with the pins on my Regular's clutch, I took them out, built them up with a few weld passes and turned them down in a lathe.
