Farmall H shifter problem

My H is stuck in neutral. The gear shift is sloppy. It feels like it is going in gear but nothing happens. It can be shifted without pushing the clutch. I tested the clutch by engaging the belt pulley; the clutch engages and releases as it should. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.

If the shifter feels normal, and has the Double "H" pattern, and is sloppy but feels like there are gears it is moving, the issue could be a sheared constant mesh gear Key on the countershaft. If sheared, the gear will turn free, but not drive the output. It should work in 5th (try that to see if it will pull the engine down as normal. If it does not, there is some other issue. It could be a broken final drive, or differential gear.
One way to see if it is in the final drive (after the trans) stepping on the brakes when the clutch is out will slow the engine (4th gear). Jim

Take off the belt pulley and look to see if gears are turning.

Problem solved! It turned out that the pin that holds the shifter in the transmission had worked out about halfway and was letting the shifter rise above the slots intended for it.
I put the pin back in the proper position and it works fine now.
I am grateful to Janicholson and gcnehring for your insights.
Thank you.
