Battery not charging

I'm having a problem with my '44 H battery not charging. It is a 6-volt system and I gave her a new generator and voltage regulator. I used the wiring diagram you see above and I have double and triple checked that I did the wiring correctly (and I also polarized the generator).

Any suggestions?

Regulators today are junk - always start there, especially if you know the generator is good. I went through four on one tractor to get one that worked. When it quit a month later I bought an alternator. Anyone want a new generator and 6 volt battery?

so you are merely using the vreg as a cutout and not as a regulator? have you checked to see if the lamp tickle switch / resistor is good?

If you work through my Troubleshooting Procedure it can help diagnose the cause (genny or VR or wiring or grounds etc) of non charging.

See my Para 5: If dead grounding the gennys FLD post makes her charge but NOT otherwise, the VR isnt well grounded or bad (ON VR syatem) or the light switch is bad or has a bad ground on the cutout relay systems or wires bad from genny up to switch.

PS that system shown is NOT a VR, its a cutout relay system where the light switch regulates charge rate low or high. It MUST have a good frame ground to work!!!!!!!

Where did you get the regs i have bought from Car Quest and they are USA made and work. Did your regs match the genny as they do need to be matched.

Had the same trouble with my 300 utility tractor, ending up being the voltage regulator.match the generator with the regulator.I had a remy delco generator had cowin auto supply match a remy delco voltage regulator to the generator.charges fine now. Also make sure you have a good ground and you use 00 cables.
