When timing the mag on a F-30 should the D/C mark on the flywheel beslightly before the peg when mag is on #1 cyl.? Or should the mark be right on the peg? Thanks for any help, Mark.

Mark, you want to be on TDC or a little after. If it is before the crank is going to kick!

if you have a manual, it tells you how to time the mag in detail. Mag fully retarded points should just start to open at TDC to 8 degrees after TDC.

Personally, I prefer the "get #1 on TDC for the compression stroke", and set the timing from there. The mark on the flywheel is hard to see, often covered up with dirt and whatever from time. It is very simple to test for compression and TDC. The set the mag.

There is no guessing when #1 is TDC.
