carb varnish

I'm rebuilding a Zenith carb for a my Super C. It has some brown varnish that has only started to soften after repeatedly hitting it with carb cleaner. I'm sure E10 gas will do it, but I would like to avoid that.

What works to remove this gum ?

Thanks

Greg

After COMPLETE disassembly, glass bead blast the main parts , solvent spray clean, blow dry, and assemble!
Be sure to CAREFULLY clean all the beads out of the nooks & crannies.

A gal. of carb cleaner will run $20.00 at your local parts store, or sometimes Wal-Mart has it. Soak over night, and wash with water, I use hot water.

MEK, Acetone, denatured Alcohol, or Methylene Chloride. MEK and Meth Chloride are hard to find anymore, but will absolutely cut the varnish. Boiling in a lye solution wil also remove the varnish.

20.00 thats cheap, i bought a gallon last fall and it cost almost 60.00 for a gal.at napa. but it is worth it in the end as it does its job.
