well i got the cub electrical solved, the battery had a dead cell, i hand cranked it yesterday to go do some mowing, got about as far from the house as possible and she quit, just like it ran out of gas, annoyed me enough to tow it back to the house behind a ford tractor, lol drained fuel tank, removed sediment bowl and cleaned it, nothing in it, removed carb disassembled it and cleaned it, nothing in it either, put it all back together and put a new battery in it , it fired up and ran nice,, sitting there , im going to try mowing with it today, but fair warning to it, if it quits this time, its being towed back by a green tractor!

I remember one time when the combine quit because the battery had an internal short. We had jumped it and started cutting but when it gave up the ghost the generator on the combine couldn't overcome the short enough to get good spark to the coil.

If you have a coil/distributor ignition I think that was the reason it quit.

Get yourself a good J-4 magneto and you'll not have to pull it home again, even if the battery fries completely. Even a weak battery will start a tractor on a mag if it has enough umpf to turn it over... but that's not always true with distributors. Sometimes the starter draws too much juice and it results in a weak spark w/ a dist. coil set up. The magneto's impulse drive will make adequate spark, even it you have to resort to handcranking.

this cub has a mag ignition, the crack about pulling it with the green tractor must have done it, i just mowed 3 acres with it and it never missed a beat
