Super mta diesel issue

We bought a non running super mta diesel we put a rebuilt head on and after running 5 minutes seems to be building way too much pressure in radiator what gives?

Even with a new head gasket it could be bad. The rebuilt head may have been magna fluxed and not pressure tested and could be cracked. The block maybe cracked up front (they like to do that) resulting in pressure in the radiator. Do you have a lot of bubbles on the radiator or was it filled to the neck and the engine is trying to push some out the overflow to find its happy level of coolant. I would have the head pressure checked, the blocked checked and start over. My 2cents.

D282 is possibly on to the issue. If you filled it that is incorrect. it needs 2.5 inches below the bottom of the neck to be correct. If full it will puke out. If the cores are covered by an inch or so it is correct. Jim

I agree with d282 as well. I suspect there is a crack somewhere. I once bought a repaired head for a gas start diesel and it did the same thing immediately. The head was cracked and no refund from the shop that sold it. I later found a good used original head and had it tested--problem solved. If the pressure builds fast and there are lots of bubbles in the radiator then suspect the worst. In my experience, I have never seen a leaking head gasket on a gas start diesel but have had lots of cracked heads--there are five of them on my scrap iron pile right now.
