Transmission Countershaft Nut Question

Gentlemen, I'm in the process of removing and replacing the leaking bottom seal for the countershaft that drives the lift-all pump. I can't seem get the countershaft nut to come off. Is the nut attached with a key, or is it threaded on the shaft? How does it come off? Thanks for your help.

It is threaded on. Put the transmission in gear and block the wheels. Then put a piece of steel in the slot to act as a lever and hit the steel with a hammer to break the nut loose.

I just did mine, welded a piece of keystock on an extra cheap socket and hit it with an impact. spun right off. Lefty loosey.

All that you have to do is use a soft punch (brass if you have it) and put it in the edge of the slot and hit it with a hammer. As was said it turns left to loosen.
The same thing works for the driver on the pump.
No need to put it in gear, lock wheels etc.

Also check out the bearing on the bottom shaft. It could be getting bad and letting it wear the seal.
