Farmall A conversion

I am working on a friends A that has been converted to 12 volt. It has a new alternator and coil and new wiring. Cannot get fire from the mag to the plugs. Any suggestions?

Yes it is a mag. Another fellow did the conversion so I am not sure about the wiring. Does anyone have a wiring diagram for this conversion?

I have a bunch of wiring diagrams, 25 last time I counted, for alternator conversion on my website, charliesrepair dot com click on wiring diagrams in the top line. Take your pick for the tractor you have and the type of alternator that was used. good luck

This is correct. The pressure switch is from napa and has 1/8" pipe threads (closed at about 5 psi, and open with no pressure. "T" it into the oil pressure connection. The mag cannot have any power to it it is grounded at the side terminal to make the tractor stop. If power was put to it it may nave at least burnt points if not toasted mag coil. The on off switch is a grounding kill switch.

Like Phil said, if its a mag there is no connection between the electrical system and the mag. There should just be a wire from the mag to a kill switch. Pull the cover off the mag and clean all the contacts.

If you still have the magneto and a separate coil it has been converted to battery ignition using the magneto to furnish the points and distributor for the secondary wiring. The magneto coil is disconnected inside and the external coil is attached to the terminal that would normally be for grounding the mag to shut off the engine. Sometimes the magneto condenser is used or it also is disconnected and another one is added at the coil. Use one or the other, not both. The external wiring should be the same as a normal battery ignition distributor.

Rub the points with some 320 wet or dry until they're shiny then see if have fire to your plugs.

PS: Post a picture of your magneto. As been mentioned your alternator is used for charging your battery.
