Coil for H4 Magneto Question?

I"m going to need a coil for the H4 Magneto on an H Farmall. Looks to be an H4. The coils I see advertised seem to not have the iron core in the coil. Am I supposed to take out the old core and install it in the new coil? How is it removed? It has a ridge on each end so it won"t press out.
Need help, Please!

It's made of laminated steel plates riveted together and ground to a round shape. There should NOT be any ridges on it (unless you are looking at old tar residue).

Since you have determined the old coil is bad, cut through it with a hacksaw, down to the steel, then peel the remains of the coil of the core. If you get rough with it trying to press it out of the old coil, you will deform the riveted together laminated pieces and render the core useless. You do NOT want to know how I know this!

You may want to have a look at the official service manual at the link below: (page 46)

Thanks very much for the information and the link to the service manual. I have saved it for future reference. Never knew there was so much to learn about a coil.

H4 coil core is not laminated. Stand and center the end of the coil over a socket with an opening large enough to let the bar slide in. About a 1” deep well, tap it through using a large punch or another socket slightly smaller than the bar. I have a 3/8” by 4” extension that fits perfect. Clean the bar and tap through new coil. Good luck.
