IH 826 Steering Problem

I too have an IH 826 with long standing and progressively worse steering. It's gotten to the point where I have to use the brakes to turn it.... The local shop took apart the spindles and gears (to some extent?) about 7 years ago and "didn't find much." They told me "just keep it greased well" (I have). Just changed the hydraulic oil, filters, grease, etc, but it has gotten to the point where I'll need to put it in hibernation, buy a book and start to tear it apart, I suppose. Any advice out there? Anyone else been down this road?

Just jack it up and see if it turn ok then. If so, you can forget spindles and thrust bearings. May be as simple as the o-ring on the power steering relief valve or valve it self. Just pull bottom rear plug on mcv and if o-ring is shot the relief valve will fall out. If not, run starter a few seconds and blow it out. Easy to see if adjusting screw has unscrewed or valve is leaking. What is your red light doing when you steer. Should not come one, of course it has to be working like comes on when switch on, not running.
