I put a dip-stick in my "H", I drilled a hole in the boss sticking out of the block above this area, carefully drilled a 1/8" hole for an inch, then a 3/16" for a while, then back to a 1/8" further down, and actually did not break off a bit. Had to drill through about 2 3/4" of cast iron. Put in a threaded nipple, and a Ford dipstick. Works great. If you do ths, pull the oil pan, to see where you"re drilling, becuase your dipstick will miss the crank by maybe 3/4". You"ll need to clean all the shavings out too.
