International 434 Diesel - clutch

Hello,

I was working the garden today and the clutch on my 434 stopped disengaging the PTO when full compressed. By the time I was done, the clutch wouldn't engage at all to allow changing of gears.

Temporary solution has been to engage/disengage the PTO while the tractor was turned off, and to start the tractor in gear.

It's a 1960's (1968 I believe) Allied International 434 Diesel.

Anyone know how to fix this?

Cheers,

A bad throwout bearing that is self destructing, and destructing the release fingers is probably the most likely issue. The IH website seems not to have diagrams to provide more specific info.
If there is an inspection plate, remove it to see what is happening. I would not operate the tractor because more expensive damage can result. If no inspection plates are on or under the clutch housing, it may require a split to repair it. Jim

Sounds like you will probably needto split the tractor to fix your clutch!!

Do you need a service manual?? I sell these as a PDF copy as a download and accept payment through PayPal !!!

Hi, check the clutch pedal adjustment, should be
7" from foot rest to bottom of clutch pedal. This
is adjusted by the clutch stop adjustment bolt.
Next check clutch free travel should be 1/2" and
is adjusted by loosening the 2 bolts on the clutch
pedal and putting a wrench on the squared part of
clutch shaft and turning.
There is an inspection plate on bottom of clutch
housing that can be removed to check the throw out
bearing. If the transmission clutch works after
doing clutch adjustment and the PTO still chatters
there is another more involved adjustment.
So try clutch pedal adjustment and post back.

Hope this helps

Thanks everyone for the responses.

We pulled off the inspection plate and dug around a little and found a broken bolt in one of the clutch teeth (bolt securing the tooth). After messing around in there for a while we managed to remove the bolt and replace it and everything works again.

Cheers,
Ulf.
