Cub ticks in 1st and reverse.

Whenever I'm 1st or reverse it makes a loud ticking sound. Not sure if its in the transmission. Has anyone had this problem? Also I was changing the fluids today and when I pulled the pto cover off I found some metal in there. The rear end gears look good. I pulled the shifter off but I couldn't see in there very well (couldn't find my flashlight), so I called it a day an decided to post a question about it instead.

Thanks,
Jeff

Check the bolts that hold the center to the rims. Mite want to take the nuts off a little and put some oil on the threads so they will tighten better.

Thanks for the reply. I already checked all the wheel bolts. I'm thinking it has something to do with the 1st and reverse gear, cause 2nd and 3rd don't do it. I'm going out now to get a better look.

If the tick is proportionate to the ground speed I would wonder if you had a chipped tooth on the 1st/reverse slider gear, if the Cub transmission is set up that way.

without hearing it myself it is anyone's guess but i can tell you i noticed a tick/clunk in a deuce-and-a-half on 1 and R, found the problem when a found a tooth from the gear next time i drained the oil. 706 has a tick in reverse, found the tooth in the bottom this past winter. both seem to work just fine that way other than the noise.

I found a gear that's worn, not sure which one it is yet. If your sitting on the tractor its on the top left at the back. How hard is it to take the tranny apart.
