560 problems still

I have been working slowly on my 560. The valve oiling seems to be ok after running it a few times it just took a while to get the oil up there and slung around.

I took the manifold off last week thought I maybe had a leak at the gasket. Proceeded to split intake and exhaust and clean the stove out. Installed manifold with new gasket and still have the intake backfire problem.

I let it run about 4-5 minutes at high idle and noticed the exhaust pipe turning orange while sitting in the shed running with no load. Isn't this an indication of timing advanced too far? I had set the timing by the book previously

I will double check in the morning but the carb should be set 5 turns out.

Been reading about the fuel issues with the 263 it sure would be easy to try that.

Good news tonight I figured out the problem. The advance in the distributor is locked up. Finally decided to get the timing light out and see how things were. I had about 10 degrees of advance at wide open throttle. Lots of play in the bushing too so thinking it may be time to get a rebuilt distributor.
