Besides the serial number plate and serial number on the engine, is there an other way to tell the difference between a w-14 and a w-12? They both look the same, did one have anything different than the other? Thank-you, Phil

14 has a breather on the right side of the valve cover with a pipe going down the side of the block. it is that way on the F14 so I would think the W's should be the same.

nothing really different. just w-14 had increase in rpm. i think combustion chamber design had a change to.

Your comments are true for the F-12/F-14, 1400 rpm versus 1650 rpm (12 versus 14 HP). The O-12 and O-14, I-12 and I-14 and Fairway-12 and Fairway-14 all had 2000 rpm engine speeds. The O-12 engine will produce nearly 20 HP at full throttle. The very early W-14 had 1400 rpm engines changed to 1700 rpm to get 3rd gear speed up to a reasonable amount. The W-14 used the same engine governor weights and springs as the F-14, hence 1650 rpm.
