12 volt wiring for 100

I know there are a number of wiring diagrams out there but is there a specific one for a 12 volt conversion on a 100? I rebuilt my grandads 100 and had it running a little while but then it quit. My brother thinks it"s wired wrong and I burned up the coil.

12 volts is 12 volts and it does not care if it is an H or a 100 or for that matter a truck. If you have the simple Delco 10si 3 wire it is easy. That said if you still have a 6 volt coil and no ballast resister you can burn the point up fast. Coil while you can burn one out are still hard to burn up because the points will go before the coil does. A simple VR-1 ballast resister from O'Reilly's auto parts is a good one for the job. One simple way to maybe check for a bad coil is fell the bottom of it. If flat most likely still good if pushed out from flat might be bad.

You brother might be right if you used the original coil. There are 12V ones and 6V ones that require a ballast resistor. The difference is the resistance, which limits the current.

Still more likely to have burned up the points. I almost never find a burned out coil unless it is shorted right to ground as in the points are shorted and then a coil can explode learned that back when I was 17 or so when one exploded under the hood of the VW bug I had yep 6 volt system

Refer to my reply to the Super A 12V conversion thread this morning. It's exactly the same 5-step process on the 100.

Here's a diagram I made for My Super A, it works for the Delco 1 wire + electronic ignition. If you switch over to 12volt lights I believe you need the wire connected to the same side of the ammeter that the alternator and ignition wire are on.
