OT Bushing a PHD auger

I have a chance to pickup a larger auger for my post hole digger. The receiver on mine is 2" and the auger is 2.5". I was wondering about making a bushing to expand my receiver to accommodate the auger. Looked at some steel suppliers on line and there is such a thing as steel tubing, 2.5" OD with .25" wall thickness. Seems like a short piece would do the trick. The auger size is within the specs of my digger otherwise. I am not REAL familiar with steel measurements and how precise they may be. Will this work or am I likely to run into trouble in some way? Any advice appreciated.

MECHANICAL TUBING CAN BE HAD THAT IS HELD TO A VERY CLOSE TOLERANCE. A GOOD STEEL SUPPLIER SHOULD BE ABLE TO GET IT FOR YOU.

Do it. If it is too tight, Have a local vocational school turn it out. If too loose, cut a saw kerf down one side pinch and weld. Jim

And that is what we are going to do, thanks! Went ahead and bought the thing...it was cheap. Get it adapted it will save me a lot of shoulder and back pain down the road!

What you want is DOM tubing. DOM is drawn over mandrel.

Normal tubing is made from a flat plate that is curved into a tube, welded, and ground smooth on the OUTSIDE. There is a weld bead on the inside which messes up any idea of fit.

DOM tubing is solid, smooth inside and out.

Metalsdepot DOT com has 2.5", .250" wall DOM tubing in lengths as short as 12". It ain't cheap, but it's the easiest way to get from A to B in your case.

Just happened to be checking back and saw your post. Thank you kindly for the input, that is quite helpful. I will note the link and contact them once I get the auger home and "dry fit" it to make sure of what is needed.
