With the TA on low side it shifts to high side with the lever still in low position. It does it real smooth no jerking or anything and still pulls good. Whats going on.

Well, you're almost to the bottom of page 1 on the modern view with no answers, so I'll give you a bump. Maybe someone can come along with more helpful info.

So you shift into low, it goes into low, then shifts back into high spontaneously? Does it shift under any particular conditions, like it won't stay in low under a heavy load or something?

All there is to shifting that TA is a simple clutch. If the clutch is released it's in low/TA. If the clutch is engaged, it's in high/direct.

So for some reason, the TA clutch is grabbing even though the lever is in low. Could be a simple adjustment, or it could be that your TA throwout bearing is going bad? Just a guess.

If your linkage is set properly I would guess your ta rollers have flat spotted and gradually grab ahold of the carrier causing the ta to turn a 1:1 ratio. Check your linkage and ta clutch first.
