I just performed my 1st ta swap in my 706 and when I put it back together and ran it everything works fine but the ta wines when you let the clutch out. I was told it was one of the two gears that constantly mesh with the ta. Wondering if anyone had any ideas?

Early 06 tractors had a different gear ration on the low side of the TA. Those gear sets are easy to tell apart because of the different number of teeth on the gears. After that there were two different gear angles used in tractors from the 706 and newer. Original gears had a 20° pressure angle. During the production run of the 56 series tractors the angle on most of the gears was changed to 25° pressure angle. These gears sets will have the same number of teeth so you have to look real closely at them to tell them apart. If you mismatch them you will end up with noisy gears.

The difference of the angle of the gear teeth is why most TA's come with a lower gear. That way the rebuilder can be sure a matching gear set is installed.

If you determine you have correct mateing gear, tooth count and tooth pressure angle, then the only other thing is, no doubt the nut and gears and spacers were loose on counter shaft, right. Those loose gears find a wear pattern over time. If you tightened that nut, now they are in a different pattern. They will work loose again eventually but sound like heck until they do. That is why some of us tighten nut, back it off a little and then locktite it and or pin nut along with the locking washer. Not all will agree on this method but then none of us agree on everything. I believe HY-CAPACITY recommeds t his.
