Model C float setting

need some help. I put a carb kit in a Zeneth 10386 carb and set the float at 1 5/32" like the book said. new needle and seat and so on.now when the tractor sets over night gas leaks out the main needle,Do I set the float at 1 7/32" or should I put the old needle and seat back in and leave the float setting where it is at? or is there something I am over looking.

If your float sets parallel with the carb body, the setting is not the problem. It is either too stiff on the hinge, leaky float , rubbing on side , needle is leaking or gasket under seat is not sealing. I like to test the needle and seat with vacuum, usually just sucking on it with mouth. Probably needs staking to make a good seat.

I understand that you are supposed to clean the needle point really well before installing as it has some type of protection on it to keep it from corroding in storage.

Staking is done to form a good seat. Often the new seats are not very good. Back in the day when we had steel needle and brass seat we would tap on the needle to form a good seat. With viton tipped needle this is not ordinarily done although some do it. I use a tip from an injection nozzle that has the same degree as the needle and tap it with a small hammer a few times then test it for sealing. I can't really tell you what to use because I just happen to have these available to me. Could stop at an injection shop and get an old nozzle tip from 806 up to 1586 and no doubt many other engines.

Don t take this as a Smart A-- answer, but that is why there is a shut off at the tank. I have three running tractors, and the gas is turned off on all three whenever I park them for the night.
