Anyone know how you line up the trippng lever with the oval slot inside the pump before you reinstall the pump and reservoir in tractor? (And without destroying the gasket in the process)? The manual says to tilt the pump while lining it up, but I have tried every which way to no avail. I know it is possible because I did one 30 years ago, but my memory fails me on this.

I do several practice fits (without the gasket) before I actually assemble it. I think the trick is to have that oval slot just a the right angle. I hold it steady by clamping vice grips on the outside part that the handle attaches to.

Yep, I use the vice grips too. Maybe I"m just not using the right curse words?
