B275 pto shifter assembly...please help

I have a b275 IH and the pto gave out while bush hogging. I took off the pto shifter handle that's held on by the three bolts and when trying to reassemble, I can't line up the shifter with the groove that engages and disengages the pto. I'm looking for any help possible. What am I doing wrong and please give suggestions. Am I going about this all wrong or am I missing something?

did you turn over the tranny after removing the selector shaft ??

you shoild be able to see the collar and align it with alarge screw driver so that when u insert the selector the peg locates in the collar groove.

Do you have aservice manual ?? i sell genuine copies of the IH manuals in PDF format .

I have the manual but thanks

What do you mean turn over the tranny? Sorry I"m a novice and trying to save some money.

I can get a screw driver in there and see the groove the shifter needs to go in and I can engage it and disengage it with the screw driver. Should I try putting on the shifter into that grove with it in th engaged position or disengaged? I"m assuming the disengaged position which I"ve been trying. I"m pretty certain I can get it in the groove but it just doesn"t want to act right or line up when I try putting the bolts back in. Thanks again for your help and time.
