Farmall 300

OK Friends I am in dire need of some help! My tractor a Farmall 300 is seizing up and choking the engine down while going up hill only. Pushing the clutch in does NOT stop the choking down. The tractor will restart immediately, but in 3rd or 4th gear it chokes right out again. If I put it in low or 2nd gear it will travel right on, but you can note it is lugging the engine to do that. I"ve drained and refilled the differential oil to the proper level, I"ve added hydraulic oil to the hydraulic system tto the proper level. On the level or down hill the tractor workd flawlessly. I don"t have a clue what to do next. Any suggestions or directions would really be appreciated.

I had the same type of problem with my "H", and I found out the the choke was coming on going up a hill. The choke showed no signs of resistance so I installed a spring to keep it open.

Fuel delivery rate to carb must be a stream at least 1/8" in diameter for 2 minutes (a 1/2 gallon or more) to supply the demand. There is a screen at the carb fitting and in the sediment bowl. Jim

When I got my 300 it had a rod instead of the cable to operate the choke. It would put itself on when going uphill or sometimes when I hit a bump. I got a used choke cable assembly and put it on and have had no problems since. The cable has more friction to hold it in place.

A piece of collapsing gasoline hose would do that and so would a piece of debris in the fuel tank. On a hard pull the carb would exert a heavier suction and collapse a weak hose or draw a piece of particulate over the suction hole. One time I had a tractor with an internally rusted gasoline
line that would behave that way. The strionger suction would pull on the rust like a flap and restrict the line ID.

What does the exhaust look like before it dies? Does it sputter before it dies. Does it backfire before it dies. We need to determinr if it is too rich or too lean.
