684 bearing pieces

I had a farmer come into the shop today (JD dealership) that owns an IH 684. He is trying to decide if he wants to trade it or not but he said that they just drained the hydraulic oil and on the rear plug got some needle roller bearing pieces. He showed me a picture on his phone and not all of the pieces were the same length. Some short and some long. I am supposed to look into what I think it could be. My first thought is a bearing on the pto drive line. I have never worked on a 684 before so my knowledge is zip. Any ideas on where the bearing could have come from and if it is on the pto drive how does it come apart? Thank you.

Needle rollers are used in various places throughout that transmission.

Are there any reports of bad gearchange or it jumping out of gear ??

I sell PDF copies if the genuine factory service manuals, if you need a copy, drop me an e mail !!

They said that everything seemed to work good without any unusual noises or vibration. They are a little surprised. I had a tech tell me today that it could be that some had an optional dual pto and the bearings could be in the housing even though there wasn't an extra shaft in there.
