I have a farmall m with a 12v system and pertronix ignition. The m started sputtering and missing and wouldn't hardly start when shut down, it cut out horribly when the throttle was opened. It acted like it was starving for fuel. i messed with the carb and adjusted it with no change, finally i pulled the spark plugs one by one and the #3 cylinder was not firing. pulled plug and it would randomly spark. Come to find out my ballast resistor must have went out and toasted my coil. new coil and it runs like new

Most likely the coil went bad with an internal short (happens from vibration and age) and the reduced resistance burnt the ballast. If a ballast resistor fails it is almost certain to become an open circuit, not a reduced resistance. Jim

I see what ur saying. I ordered a ic14sb from napa I guess you don't need the resistor with that one. It was only 20 bucks
