53 Super C, (Serial # Frame/Block) (Paint)

Should the unit # and the block # be the same? This SC unit # is FC 177xxx and the block # is FCM G 185xxx. Both would be 1953 (low end and high end of 1953). The "G" I would guess stands for gas, but what does the "M" stand for?
Paint: The outside paint is red, but primer or orignal paint is industrial yellow. Did IHC (in 1953) make a industrial Super C or would this tractor have started out as a county or state unit and the factory painted it yellow?
Thanks, Wayne

The earlier Farmall A and B had the same number on chassis and engine. But with the introduction of the Farmall Super A and The Farmall C the engine number is not the same as the chassis number, similar nut NOT the same.

Unless your SC happens to be from France all SC's had gas engines. The M stands for motor, the G might stand for cotton picker, but that would be unusual, I know of no other use for the letter G. I'm going to say no to the industrial version, but without proof. IH would paint any color the buyer wanted, for a fee. Some of the State/Federal agencies did their own painting.

My 1953 Super C was factory complete the last week of August 1953 and has chassis s/n 180xxx. The engine s/n is 188xxx with a spread of 8340 between the two numbers. My tractor has the original engine and chassis as it came from a neighbor and was never out of the family. It appears you have about the same spread between the two s/n's as on my Super C and think you will find it fairly close to the 8340 I noted on mine. I believe the M in the engine serial no. means "motor" but I have no documentation to substantiate that fact but makes sense to me. Your tractor was factory complete approx. 3000 units earlier then my SC. Also, there is no "G" in the engine s/n on my SC.
As far as the paint others on this forum can provide better information but it could have been painted originally at the factory as yellow for an industrial or highway use tractor. IHC did not make an industrial SC to my knowledge. I have a 1966 Farmall 140 which was originally a state of Indiana Highway Dept. tractor as the ID tags are still on the tractor and the Woods belly mower which was an original yellow tractor. The tractor was repainted red after it was acquired by the previous owner. Hope this helps, Hal.
P.S. Where in Washington are you located as I spent almost 40 years at Boeing in the Seattle area before retiring back to the family farm in Missouri.

To all, Thanks for your replies.
Farmallhal, the serial # spread is 7737. I live in SW corner, about 30miles NW of Vancouver. Wayne
