F12 Starting Motor

Greetings. Welcome to spring. I was discussing an F12 today. My friend has just bought mine and he is thinking of a starter motor. He is considering putting it on the PTO. His idea is to use a flywheel with starter ring gear and a freewheeling/over riding pto drive. Then mount the motor somewhere obviously adjacent. Something in my poor old mind believes this has been done previously. Any ideas or info on it. (If it works my Wallis 20/30 is in for a treat) Mike

mike the link that fawteen posted has all the many ways I have seen it done. If not Original kit than ring gear on clutch shaft is what I would do. oldiron29

I'll have to look John.

An original bellhousing was cut and modified with a bolted on weldment that the starter mounts to. I can take a picture of it installed, I don't think I have any of just the bare modified bellhousing.

Forgot I had this one.

One way is to mount a flywheel from an automatic tranny on the input shaft going to the tranny then build a mount for the starter. Sure beats cranking.

Give me a while to rummage around, I can point you to a source for the starter.

No real info on the ring gear, it would be determined by the diameter of the flywheel.
