Found on the Side of the Road

My Dad and I went for a drive to see if we could find a Sunshine Seed Drill pre 1940. We were rewarded by finding a complete unit, which still had a small seeds box and gear drive attached! On the front was a McCormick Tractor. The tractor is complete. Even the magneto leads and plugs are still fitted, as are the glass water traps under the fuel tanks. Not sure of the model, as I don't know much about the McCormick series. Looks like a 10-20, but bigger.

Thanks! Don't know much about the 15-30 tractor. Haven't spoken to the owner yet, but I'm going back on the weekend. I really stopped to look at the seed drill because Sunshine machinery has almost completely disappeared now. They were eventually completely taken over by Massey Ferguson. Don't know what M-F are like outside Australia, but here they have always been and generally continue to be absolutely useless for spare parts or help in general. I'll go and see if I can get both the seed drill and the tractor. The tractor looks like it would not take too much to get it going. Fuel tanks are rusted through in patches and the I.D. is illegible, though still there, but basically a good, complete machine.

How the heck can you go out on a random drive looking for an obscure piece of equipment and just happen to FIND it, sitting by the side of the road?

In Australia, even!

with the solid panel in the left side hood that was a 22-36. but cant be 100% certain without seeing the engine. 15-30 dont have a water pump but 22's do. i can say it does have the 22-36 exhaust manifold at least

Hey Sad, heres some pics of my 22-36 for your reference. engine pic will show you the water pump and manifold configuration

also, 22-36's were the first time full length hood side panels would be used on the 'big' tractors. 15-30's always had a small filler panel under the side sheets.

Thanks for the pictures! I'll see if the owner will let me try to clean up the I.D. plate on the tractor when I go there again to make it legible. Your tractor looks pretty well identical. I didn't get a good look about the water pump, but it certainly had the same type of fan belt on it.
There was a fertilizer spreader there and an Oakland ute. Both mostly complete, but not as good as the tractor and seed drill behind it.
The drive was not quite random. I knew there was a place selling 'garden ornaments' out that way, but it proved no good at all. Only a few skeletons of ruined seed drills and ploughs. So we just went on through the local area. We found another place with a whole yard full of old tractors and ploughs and other stuff. A couple more McCormicks and Fordson E27-N, but all in a terrible state of repair. Hardly worth salvaging for parts even. Also the chap had dogs - big dogs and not pleased to see anyone anywhere near the front fence. Presumably he was not the friendly type - I didn't ask.

My alltime favorite, the 22-36, nice tractor F-20.
Full length side curtains came first on the 15-30 in 1928 without the carburetor 'hump' in it as seen on your 22-36, louvers all the way across.

Thanks Russ. My great grandfather bought that 22-36 new in 1930. it was in the family until the mid 90's and i got it back last spring. It was left to me in a will from a friend in the IH club. he knew where it came from and wanted it to go back home

I stand corrected on the hood sheets, i thought the 15's always had the small filler panel. 8)

Hey Sad, one mor ething i will add. if the serial number is over TG99926 then its a '22-36' even though the serial tag says 15-30 tractor on it
