Yes you will have to use the bearings to match the crank.Later m"s +400 ,450 had bigger journal sizes.I dont know if the M&W could have had the smaller journal sizes.

I HAVE A "39 BLOCK? WAS THE MAIN AND ROD JOURNALS DIFFERENT? OR DO I NEEED TO FIND A SUPER M BLOCK?
 
measure the rod journal if it is 2.498 it is the early m measurement so you would use rods and mains for sn up to 278049.If it measures 2.548 it is the later m super m 400 450 measurement so will have to use rods and mains from those tractors.Your block will work with any crank but you have to use the bearings that match up with the crank.They just use a different thickness of bearing to make up the difference for the crank.The housing bores are all the same size in the block and rods early or late.ep
