300 U water pump packing

Just pulled dad's 300 u out of the shop. I replaced the packing among other things but found it hard to determine if the packing nut was tight enough. It looks like it is weeping, has anyone tightened the packing nut with everything assembled on the tractor? How about adding another packing? Had enough trouble getting the packing in there when I had it off. Can't imagine it would be any easier with it on the tractor.

I would just tighten the nut some, not over tight and grease the impeller zerk.

It will tighten when on the tractor. Tighten in increments of one flat on the nut. When it stops leaking stop tightening. Check it a few times to assure seal in the first week. Jim
