IH 300 U 2 point

I own a 300 U with a 2 point hitch , there aren"t very many of these tractors around this area. So I have a question. Did all the 2 point hitches on the Utility tractors have the lift cylinder on the left side laying flat ? This one I have has the cylinder running up and down like a row crop tractor, works ok just wondering , most of the pictures I have seen show the cylinder laying down on the left hand side by the seat. Any idea"s thanks.

Most of the 300U had the Fast-Hitch with the lift cylinder nearly horizontal. Some of the tillage implements used a top link that attached to the rockshaft so the same cylinder controlled depth, unlike the 300/400 Farmalls that used a second cylinder to control depth. For the 350/450 models, they came out with the vastly different draft control hitches that used a vertical lift cylinder even for the Utility models.

I think that either hitch will fit on both the 300 and 350 Utility tractors, but the 300s typically had the early style hitch and 350s the later.

Your best friend for your tractor is an Operator's Manual for your model tractor. Most all of these unique features are noted in that manual along with complete directions and instructions on the proper operation of your tractor. I personally value the contents contained in that manual to the point of purchasing one first when I'm considering the purchase of a new model tractor. I usually have already read in great detail about the tractor so I'm well informed when making the purchase. Wish you well with your new tractor and hope you find the information for it's care and useful and safe operation, Hal.

Ok thanks, I had looked at the operators manual and parts book and operators manual I have shows only the cylinder laying down by the side. I mostly was wondering if someone had put a row crop 2 point on it. thanks again

i have a 300 utility that has been in the family since 1960, so i know it hasn't been modified. it has the vertical cylinder on the fast hitch. however, as time has gone by, i have seen a lot more with the horizontal cylinder than the vertical cylinder. since i grew up using the one i have, i had figured they were all like it. not so.
