300U/350U radiator

Has anyone came up with a cost effective replacement for a 300/350 Utility radiator? Looking for some direction. Thanks.

Take the 'shell' to a reputable radiator shop.Yes It may cost some money, but it will be right,it will last.Forget the "cheap" chinese replacements-they're junk.A friend learned this the hard way.A cheap chinese radiator in a 4430 has been out once a year since new(5 years). This spring it got replaced('cause it was JUNK!) with a good AMERICAN radiator.

Are you ready for a laugh? Three years ago the radiator in my 300U gave up. Just started cutting hay with it. Pushed for time to get it back in the field working. Was restoreing a 1965 Mustang at the time. New radiator for Mustang was sitting there in the box. Some extra hoses and waa laa. Aftermarket aluminum Mustang radiator for less than $150. Been three seasons and its still in there. Original? Not even close!

I had a fan blade go trough mine a couple of years ago. I got a good used one from Steel Wheel Ranch. He had it pressure tested before shipping and put a 30 day warranty on it. Price was half of a recore. Recores aren't cheap but if you have it done correctly it is like having a new radiator when they are finished.

I would imagine a radiator meant for a Mustang with, say, a 289 and air conditioning would have plenty of capacity for cooling a C169 or C175. I do know that there were 2-row and 4-row radiators for the '65 Mustang, as I have an example of each in my barn. I think there was also a 3-row variety.

I've read that hot rodders will sometimes have custom aluminum radiators made. I don't know about the cost, but it may be possible to have something fabricated that's close to the original look without getting too expensive -- just a thought.

Unfortunately a good radiator shop that will do the job right is getting harder and harder to find. The old timers that really knew what they were doing are dying off, and the ones running the shops now only want to sell you a new Chinese radiator. If you do insist that they repair yours it's often a hack job that ends up leaking anyway.

Yep. 3 core aluminum Mustang radiator cools that 4 cylinder quite nicely. For extra insurance I added a pusher fan in front of the radiator to help. Not as much capacity as original but more efficient I think. The Mustang radiator works well because it is tall and narrow. No modifications to it to make it fit. Bottom hose was on the wrong side though.
