Transmission Countershaft Wear Pattern

In the photo below, look at the coupler on the countershaft. Is that a wear pattern or is the coupler milled that way? The driving dog is worn like that on both the transmission side and pump side. Is it wear or by design?

I have never seen one quite that badly worn, though I have seen
them chipped and missing that amount of metal. The two edges
are parallel and straight when the coupler is new.

Definitely wear! (Before it wore it was a simple, square-cut slot in both halves.)

I'd be looking for misalignment between the pump and countershaft centerlines. A possible cause could be the pump was not mounted tight to the torque tube. Or perhaps it was installed with dirt between the mating surfaces so the pump did not bolt up square.

If there was a thick gasket used, or it was run with the pump loose at some point. The wear is on the drive side of the slot. Jim

Looking at the other Image (one page back) there is obvious wear on the coupling. Were it mine ai would probably either get new parts, or mill the wear out of the drive and driven hubs, and make a new coupler to fit the wider slots. Jim

Yes thats worn pretty bad, would be nice and square when new. When I was a kid, grandpa made us pull that coupler out whenever we were doing field work that didnt reqiure the hydralics, like plowing, discing, haying , etc..
