I just bought an 806 and am not familiar with the "red" tractors, my problem is with the steering, it whines and the steering is good for a second then it gets hard. The tractor sat for some years, and I got it running and drove it some today. I worked the steering back and forth thinking it was air in the system but no change. Fluid level is good in the trans, is there a separate place to check the steering? Or do I have a valve sticking? And if so where do I start?

Change the Hydralic filter.Located under the brake pedals on the right side.NAPA #1253.With an IH,the first thing to do with a hydralic 'problem' is to change the hydralic filter. If that doesnt help add 5 gal HiTran over full.Wont hurt a thing. The PS suction tube is higher than the trans oil level,it has an O-ring inbetween the trans/rear end housing that often leaks air(design flaw).5 gal over covers the leaking Oring. Then order an Owners Manual. This site (YT) sells em.
